Impression

branding, illustration, product design, typography

I designed a concept for a perfume brand, which was inspired by my favorite art movement, impressionism. I decided that “Impression” was the perfect name for the brand because of its nod to the art movement, but also because perfumes often are used to make a positive impression.

I chose three paintings by impressionist painters Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh, and then used Adobe Illustrator to put my own spin on their work. I sampled colors from the original paintings and then was able to download different watercolor art brushes that allowed me to recreate the flowers digitally. I then played with the opacity of the illustrations I created because I knew I wanted the package of the perfume bottles to have the backside of the glass as the illustration, and the front side of the glass be the type. I also felt like the typefaces I chose conveyed the loose and whimsical feeling of the impressionist movement well.
